Meet our SwimCamps coach Lauren Quigley

Lauren Quigley is a name synonymous with excellence in the world of swimming.
With an impressive list of accolades to her name, including three silver medals at the Glasgow Commonwealth Games in 2014, it’s no surprise that she is regarded as one
of the world’s best swimmers.
Lauren’s journey to success began at a young age, and she quickly established
herself as a force to be reckoned with in the swimming world. At just 16 years old, she won her first British senior medal with a bronze in the 50m backstroke at the 2011 British Gas Swimming Championships. Lauren’s talent was evident to all, and she continued to shine on the international stage, winning a silver medal on her debut at the European Junior Championships in Belgrade. Lauren’s success in the pool is not surprising when you consider her family history. Her mother, Yvonne Stanley, swam internationally, and her aunt, Gaynor Stanley,
competed for Team GB at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles. It’s clear that
swimming runs in the family, and Lauren has continued the tradition of world-class swimmers.

However, Lauren’s accomplishments go beyond her swimming career. She is also the founder of Quigley Sport, a platform that aims to support not just swimmers but all athletes, parents, and coaches. Lauren uses her extensive knowledge and experience to mentor athletes and transfer the skills she learned during her career to
help others succeed. One of the ways that Lauren is using her expertise is through SwimCamps, where
she is one of the coaches. Along with her good friend Hannah Miley, Lauren will be co-leading the Barcelona camp from May 29th until June 2nd. The camp will take place at Lloret de Mar, a stunning location on the Costa Brava, just a few steps away from the beautiful sandy beaches. The camp is designed to cater to each swimmer’s needs individually, with a top-notch sports facility and the opportunity to spend quality time with international swimming peers. Swimmers will also have the chance to explore the highlights of Barcelona, making it a fun and unforgettable experience.

In this short interview, we dive into Lauren’s experiences as a competitive swimmer, her passion for mentoring and supporting athletes.

1. The moment you have realized that swimming is your life's path?

When I used to walk up and down poolside watching my mum swim and wanting to be like her!

2. What is the greatest lesson that life as a professional athlete has thought you?

It's not all about what the end result is, it’s about the whole journey and the team around you who you did it with.

3. How would you describe your coaching style?

Intuitive, empathetic and determined.

4. How have the swimmers you have worked with impacted your view on the sport?

It’s always so important to be open-minded, so ensuring that you’re constantly learning and growing within the sport is very important. Learn from
everyone you can!

5. What is the most important thing young athletes should bear in mind at all times?

Enjoy as much as you can, never stop learning and always give 100% of what you have at that moment.

6. What do you wish your swimmers take away after working with you?

Having had fun, learnt new skills and grown in many aspects of being a swimmer that they can continue at home!

7. Fun fact about you?

My mum swam for Great Britain, my auntie swam at the Olympics and I am a Manchester United fan!
